UAE Gratuity Calculator 2026
Every full year you work in the UAE adds to your gratuity: 21 days of basic wage for each of the first 5 years, 30 days for each year after. Enter your last basic salary and your dates. The example below is already filled in, so you can see how it works.
For non-UAE nationals in the private sector (mainland, not DIFC or ADGM).
Remember: gratuity uses your basic salary only. Allowances are not included, so the figure on your contract matters.
How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?
Under Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, you get 21 days of basic wage for each of your first five years and 30 days for each year after that. Part-years count pro rata once you have one full year. The total cannot be more than two years of wage.
First 5 years: 5 × 21 = 105 days. Next 2 years: 2 × 30 = 60 days. Total 165 days.
Daily wage: 10,000 ÷ 30 = AED 333.33. Gratuity: 165 × 333.33 = AED 55,000. The cap (24 × 10,000 = AED 240,000) is not reached.

What does the law say?
The UAE government portal summarises Article 51 like this:
21 days' salary for each year of work for the first five years; 30 days' salary for each year after that. Calculated on the last basic salary. Days of unpaid absence are not included. The total gratuity shall not exceed the wage of 2 years.
Official sources: u.ae, end-of-service benefits · MOHRE (law text and the ministry's own calculator).

Do I get gratuity if I resign in the UAE?
Yes, if you have at least one year of continuous service. Resigning does not cut your gratuity under Article 51 of the 2021 law. The old 1980 law cut it to a third or two thirds; the new law does not. One thing stays the same: you still owe your notice period.
Is UAE gratuity based on basic or full salary?
On your last basic salary only. Housing, transport and other allowances are not included. This is why your basic salary on the contract matters so much. If you are paid by piece rate, the law uses your average daily wage instead.
Does unpaid leave reduce my gratuity?
Yes. Days of unpaid absence or unpaid leave are taken out of your service before the calculation. Paid annual leave and paid sick leave still count. Enter your unpaid days in the calculator to see the effect.
Is there a maximum gratuity in the UAE?
Yes. Article 51 says the total gratuity cannot be more than two years of wage. For most people this cap is only reached after about 25 years of service. The calculator applies the cap to basic salary, as most guides do. The law's word is "Remuneration", which the law defines to include allowances, so if the cap applies to you, ask MOHRE whether a higher cap is due.
How soon must my employer pay the gratuity?
Article 53 says the employer must pay your wages, gratuity and other dues within 14 days of the contract ending. If payment is late, you can file a complaint with MOHRE.
Do I get gratuity if I worked less than one year?
No. Gratuity starts only after one year of continuous service. After that, part-years are paid pro rata, so 3 years and 6 months is paid as 3.5 years.
Does this calculator work for DIFC, ADGM or UAE nationals?
No. DIFC and ADGM have their own employment laws, and UAE nationals are covered by the pension law. This calculator is for non-UAE nationals under the federal law. If your employer joined the voluntary savings scheme, years after joining are paid by that scheme.
